What does the picture of the girl in gregor's room symbolize?

The picture of the girl represents Gregor's lost humanity. The woman with the fur no doubt attracted Gregor when he was human but now it merely links him to his old life and old identity. Gregor covets the picture because it was of his old life and he can look at it all day.
