what would be considered optimistic about this story?

The only thing optimistic I see in regards to this story is the fact that the rest of the family have to work to care for themselves for once.

At the end the family thinks their future is bright because Gregor is gone and they can move on. They will work to find a husband for Grete in the hope that this husband will again support them. They are glad to be rid of Gregor and that makes them optimistic.
