why is Gregor's attempt to rationalize his conditions humorous?

It is darkly humorous. The poor guy has a chirping voice. He also hopes that this whole bug thing is a dream or a passing fantasy that will disappear once he goes for breakfast but the guy definitely looks like a bug which makes the situation darkly comical.
