Setting (Element One)

The Metamorphosis is set in Gregor's family's small apartment. We are not given a specific time or place, but from the text, we can infer that Gregor lives in a city, during a time before automobiles were available.

I have to deal with the problems of traveling, the worries about train connections, irregular bad food, temporary and constantly changing human relationships which never come from the heart.
