how is the techniqe of "foreshadowing" connected to prediction?

The warning of Sergeant-Major Morris and the fakir's statement "foreshadow" or hint at the upsetting happenings coming in the later parts of the story. The main goal of foreshadowing is to give you hints about what will happen; if the reader misses the hints, then after the story has ended, the reader can go back and realize that he/she missed the hint that would have given the ending away.
