I think there is a change in tone. This reflects the increase in menace after each wish. The tone evolves from amusement, to anxiety, to terror. The house stays the same but the tone turns the story into a gothic-like nightmare. I think falls in line with the themes of the story as greed and fate affect the psyche of the family.
