What is Herbert White's attitude toward the monkey's paw?

Herbert treats the paw as a joke.... he humors his mother and father.

“Not likely!” said Herbert, with pretended horror. “Why, we’re going to be rich, and famous, and happy.” Smiling, he said, “Wish to be a king, father, to begin with; then mother can’t complain all the time.”

“Well don’t break into the money before I come back,” said Herbert as he rose from the table to go to work. “I’m afraid it’ll turn you into a mean, greedy old man, and we shall have to tell everyone that we don’t know you.”

At the start or end of the book? In the beging he didn't believe in the man's story at all until he finally tried it and got his 200 pounds of inheritance. Near the end of the book he was horrified of the paw and tried destroying the paw before his wife could make the final wish of bringing back their son from the dead which the book ends there.
