The Monkey's Paw
what textual evidence shows the author uses order of events?
and pacing
and pacing
I'm not sure what you mean here. The events are ordered the way the author intended. Each main plot point is a prelude to a new one. Foreshadowing is used effectively. The Whites' chess game, for example, at the opening of the story, when Mr. White puts his king into "sharp and unnecessary perils"—and soon sees "a fatal mistake after it was too late"—is a kind of mini-drama, one that tells us what is about to happen in the story.
