Describe the tricks that Rainsford used to try and evade or kill Zaroff.

Rainsford leaves a trail made up of twists and turns, hoping to throw Zaroff off the track. Then he makes his way to the top of the tree to sleep.

Rainsford constructs a trap, a Malay man catcher. He hope to trap Zaroff, but only manages to hit him in the shoulder.

Rainsford digs a hole and fills it with sharpened stakes. He doesn't get Zaroff, but he does kill his dog.

Rainsford makes another trap, using a young tree branch and a knife. It is meant for Zaroff but misses. He does, however, kill Ivan.

Lastly, Rainsford escapes Zaroff by jumping from a cliff. He escapes, returns, and kills Zaroff inside his home.
