What does his decision tell you about his character ?

This question calls for your opinion. There is no right or wrong answer. In my opinion, Rainsford knew he had to escape the island.... he wasn't going to be able to swim for it. Thus, the game continued on Rainsford's terms, and he won. I would describe this aspect of his personalty as determination and tenacity.
