How does Mathilde strike you as a woman? Does she capture some important part of what it means to be a woman now? Or is she just an old, bad stereotype?

I am not a woman so I am wholly unqualified to answer this question. What we do know is that Mathilde finds greater meaning in her life after she toils to replace the necklace as opposed to when she was young and full of the illusions about wealth.
