Madame Loisel always wanted more than she had and longed for nicer things, to attend parties, and to wear nice clothes. Unfortunately, they couldn't afford luxuries, so when her husband actually managed to get an invitation to one of the nicest occasions of the season, he expects her to be thrilled.
