One day Mathilde is out on the Champs Elysées. She sees Mme. Forestier. After finally paying her debt off, Mathilde feels she can tell the truth. Telling the truth to Mme. Forestier would be her final act in the saga of the necklace: a catharsis that Mathilde can finally realize.
