What was your initial reaction to the story?

My initial reaction was less than compassionate. The first time I read this story, I saw Madame Loisel as completely foolish and couldn't understand her lack of honesty. As time goes by, I tend to feel sorry for her...... and her foolishness. Too much pride is never a good thing.
