The Necklace
Why do you think Mme. Forestier never contacted Mme. Loisel after the 'return' of her necklace?
I'm just really confused
I'm just really confused
Madame Loisel took a very long time returning Madame Forestier's necklace because she was having a copy made. When she finally returned the necklace to her friend, Madame Forestier was irritated.
When Madame Loisel took back the necklace to Madame Forestier, the latter said to her in a chilly voice:
"You ought to have brought it back sooner; I might have needed it."
Madame Forestier and Madame Loisel, none-the-less, didn't have many commonalities in their lives, and in my opinion the difference in their social status was the reason she never contacted her. Her irritation was genuine, but I doubt it was enought to cause a rift.
