In the subsection “The Birth of Jim Crow”, Alexander introduces three philosophies of race relations. What are they and what are the positions taken by each?
Liberalism- Cited government hypocrisy. Condemned government celebration of equlaity and freedom in a racist society.
Conservatism- Conservatives blamed liberals for pushing blacks ahead of their proper station in life and placing blacks in positions they were unprepared to fill, a circumstance that allegedly contributed to their downfall.
Radicalism- The Radicals blamed the "priviledged class" for conspiring to keep poor whites and blacks locked into subordinate political and ecomonic position.
