Chrysalde seems a lot more level headed than the wealthy old Arnolphe. Chrysalde warns his friend against confining the young Agnès to a convent to “be raised in ignorance of life.” I think Arnolphe had some control, among other, issues that his fiend knew would not go as planned. As it turned out young Agnès had a lot more going on than she earlier let on. Chrysalde tried to temper Arnolphe as to this predicament but Arnolphe was stubborn and too controling to listen.
