The story has a sad ending. Does Santiago have any luck left? Why does he continue to dream about lions on the beach?

Santiago really doesn't have much luck. The sharks eat his Marlin and he arrives home exhausted. Santiago still dreams about the lions, a symbol of his past youth and strength. It was a time when Santiago felt he was majestic like the marlin.
