i need help

This is a story based on the literary theory of Realism, which means that no matter what man does, they are at the mercy of Fate. Here the Sea is Fate.

Take lines from the description of the sea and discuss how the imagery depicts this sense of uselessness.

This is only a short answer space. Consider the line:

The waves that came at this time were more fierce. They seemed always to break and roll over the little boat in a mass of boiling white and gray. The shore was still far away.

This line gives you a good indication of the enormity of nature and awesome power of the sea juxtaposed with the tiny boat and fragile men on it. This is good example of naturalism.
