What happens to the campers after they set up camp in Poker Flat?

The campers are actually exiled from Poker Flat. They want to set up camp at a place called Sandy Bar. The campers never get there. Uncle Billy absconds with the mules and most of their supplies. They are besieged by snow and one by one they die. The gambler and protagonist, John Oakhurst, is said to have been shot by his own gun.
