I really like Darry, he is one of my favourite characters in the novel. Darry is twenty years old and the father-figure of the family. He did not want to be the caretaker of the family but was thrust into this role when the Curtis parents were killed in a car accident. Darry works as a roofer and Ponyboy describes him as someone who is "hard and firm and rarely grins at all," in contrast to Soda. He has "grown up too fast." He was the captain of the football team in high school and won a college scholarship, but had to work to take care of the family.
