Why does Ponyboy have doubts about pride in long hair and being a Greaser?

Ponyboy begins to realize that there are different types of Greasers and some gangs he does not relate to. Tim Shepard and his gang, for example, are used to "strict discipline" with Tim controlling things while Ponyboy's gang is "just buddies who stuck together."
