The Outsiders

The book says Johnny loses the look of a wild animal caught in a trap and instead he “looked as cool as Darry ever had.” What do you think the author is indicating by this?

From the text, we can infer that Johnny's survival instinct has taken over. He needs to keep a level head.... panicking will accomplish nothing. Thus, the fear is momentarily gone.... and common sense prevails.
