Two events in chapter 1

Ponyboy is nervous walking home from the movies one night. He knows that Socs often look for vulnerable Greasers. Soon enough some Socs find Ponyboy and try to beat him up but his friends soon come to the rescue.

Ponyboy laments how Darry has to "work like an old man when he was twenty," just to take care of his brothers.
