Was it wise of Cherry and Marcia to leave their dates when they found them drinking? What else could they have done?

Cherry is aware that when they are drinking, their boyfriends often exhibit violent behavior.  She does not want to be a part of any violence, so they do save themselves some trouble by leaving the boys and exiting before any scene can be created.
