Pony sees his gang as more of a family than guys who just hang together and commit crimes. Pony's gang truly love each other.

"He shouldn't be here." None of their gang should be there, because "We're greasers, but not hoods, and we don't belong with this bunch of future convicts."

Pony's gang is more of a family than a gang who commit crimes. They love each other truly and thinks that it's there only family. But Tim Sheppards' gang is more of a future criminal organization other than what a "good gang" should do.
Ponyboy's gang truly love each other. this kind of relationship is different from Tim's since a family is different from a group which each person is getting what they want. Ponyboy feel this difference and thinks that this difference might give his group the upper hand because they are more united than Tim Sheppard's group
