The climax to the story is the church fire that PonyBoy and Johnny were facing as it is the highpoint of the story which then marks the beginning of the falling actions, Johnny's death, The Big Rumble Etc. This solves the main conflict of the story because it signifies the fact that not all greasers are poor, bad people. After the church fire they're being considered heros, not greasers. This is also an eye-opener for many others such as Randy. This may not be correct but in my opinion I think it truly is.
