Grease represents the Greaser culture. They work on old cars, grease their hair back, and don't have much money. Johnny's switchblade represents his intense fear of the Socs after getting beaten up. Johnny is far from violent but he carries a switchblade to protect himself. The book Gone With the Wind represents innocence and Johnny's romantic vision. Pony reads the book to Johnny and Johnny imagines the people in his own life like those in the book.
