Why did dally suddenly enter the burning building? Why did he hit ponyboy? How do we know this if ponyboy the narrator was unconscious?

The building was on fire and there were school children in it. Pony's clothes were on fire so he hit Pony to put the fire out. We know that Ponyboy was unconscious because Jerry Wood related the facts to Ponyboy.

That is wrong i read the book and i looked it up it says that he went in the fire because Jhonny was still in there but the other one was right but the first one wasnt sorry if it sounde rude how i said it but yeah
