why doesn't ponyboy feel scared when the socs approach him and threatens them with a broken bottle?

three socs got out

i just at there and look at them i wasnt scared. it was the oddest feeling in the world i didnt feel in anything

i busted off the end of my bottle and held on to the neck and tossed my cigarette

Ponyboy is at a crossroad. He exhausted and confused. Bob's death, the ensuing questions...... everything has finally gotten to him, and he simply doesn't care anymore. He isn't frightened because he's numb. It's one of those moments where you think..... what else could possibly happen.

Pony is different from his old self. He's just numb and has no feelings toward his loss of Johnny and Dally, as the the book mentions on Page 171 "I didn't feel anything —— scared, mad, or anything".
