How i looks like in jail and how he feels about it
Jail left Sam surrounded by danger and new trouble. He was terrified of being sentenced to ten years there. Sam describes jail as a place where "it was hard to stay out of trouble." Fighting was the norm, men marking their territory and displays of intimidation were a part of everyday life.
Even behind bars, it was hard to stay out of trouble. Brothers were always picking fights. I was outside playing basketball one day and walked over to a table to get something to drink. As I reached for a paper cup and the water pitcher, one of the tough guys snatched the pitcher.
The thought of spending ten years in jail petrified me.
