Discuss the fate of Noody. How does he act as a foil to Sam?

From the text:

Noody would eventually get a baseball scholarship to Essex Catholic High School and, while I was away at col- lege with George and Rameck, he would land a baseball scholarship at Fairleigh Dickinson University. But unlike me, he was without a built-in support network of friends. Home- sick, Noody returned after his freshman year to what he knew, the Dayton Street Projects.

Noody serves as a foil to Sam because he had opportunities, and yet, unlike Sam.... he chose not to take them.
