what was george's home life like
George Jenkins grew up in Stella Wright Housing Projects in Newark, NJ. It was one of the poorest neighborhoods in America. He lived there for 7 years with his mother and father. George's father left when he was about two. George's mother remarried. George viewed his stepfather in the same way we'd view a favorite uncle. He got George where he needed to go, but as a man, he tended to keep to himself and tinker with his cars. Eventually, he left George's mother.
