The doctor refuses to treat Coyotito until he learns that Kino has found the pearl.

Although the priest represents morality and goodness, even he is set upon trying to convince Kino to give a portion of his money to the church.

The pearl merchants are cheats who work together in order to exploit the pearl divers. They even work together in this effort.
