The figurative language of nature represents the unnerving and tense tone of the chapter. Kino and Juana's life is falling into chaos and the weather personifies this.
The weak moon was losing its light and
the clouds thickened and curdled to the southward. The wind blew
freshly into the estuary, a nervous, restless wind with the smell of
