The Pearl

destiny? or human agency?

It seems like one of the important element of 'The Pearl' is the contrast between fate and humand agency, between the destiny that is made for us abd the destiny that we make ourselves. How do these forces interact Kino's story? To what extent is Kino responsible for his own demise? To what extent is fate responsible?

Once we have the means to control our fate, in Kino's case the pearl, it is up to us to decide how to use it wisely. Kino wanted good for his family, but was blinded by the power he had because of the pearl. he is reponsible for what happened to his son because if he was not so consumed by the evil of the pearl he would not have to flee his home or village. His fate was responsible because of who he is and were he comes from he was destined not to move ahead
