There are so many examples of this from the church to the doctor to the pearl inspectors. All of them show contempt for the indigenous population. The doctor will not treat Kino's baby unless he thinks there is money, the priest is only interested in Kino when he finds the Pearl and it is a way of life for the pearl appraisers to cheat the native people.
