Wow, I hope you actually read some of this novel, and that you are not going to simply take my word for it!

I love this novel from beginning to end. Steinbeck's portrayal of greed and even avarice is strong and well exemplified through his characters. I love Kino's character, and I love the fact that greed is NOT his undoing, but rather the desire to give his family all he can and improve their lives. Somehow it all turns on him, but I don't think his motives are ever completely selfish.
