The Pearl
How do you think Kino would have reacted to the price offered by the pearl buyer if he had not made all these futuristic hopes and desires?
please, thank you :) :)

Kino knew the pearl was worth a lot of money as soon as he laid eyes on it. One of the themes in the book is the desire that resides in men's hearts. I think Steinbeck is saying that it is human nature to desire wealth when it becomes a possibility. People to this with lotteries when they buy a ticket even knowing the odds. It is difficult to say that Kino would not have dreamed of riches.
