Kino, a member of the poorer class in The Pearl, is treated unjustly by the priest who tries to extort money from Kino to perform a wedding; he is nearly robbed by the relatives who invade his cabin; he is forced to run away rather than deal with the injustice of the Pearl Buyers. In all his dealings with the upper class people, he was treated in an unjust, inhuman way by all people with whom he came in contact.
