how kino became obsessed

Kino finds the "pearl of the world". Kino becomes obsessed with how the pearl might change his family's lives. Later Kino is simply obsessed with the pearl. The pearl becomes part of his psyche, part of his identity. Kino needs the pearl even though it is costing him everything.
