Steinbeck believed writers should make humanity better,
I hold that a writer who does not passionately believe in the perfectibility of man, has no dedication nor any membership in literature.
I would think the reader also has a responsibility to act on the message that has touched their souls while reading a book: more importantly, what do you think.
