In literature, as in life, things are not always as they appear to be. Select an event, a scene or an episode from The Pearl and explain in a well what the situation appears to be and what the situation really is.
I think you should consider the actual pearl. When Kino finds the "Pearl of the world", he thinks that all his problems are solved and his new life of affluence will be set in motion. The pearl, however, takes hold of Kino's heart as it does with other men who covet it. The pearl seems like a good thing yet it has power over men. For Kino, having the pearl is not rewarding rather it sets of a devastating chain of events.
