The Pearl
The Pearl! Help!!!
1. At various points in the novella, Kino looks into the pearl. In doing so, Kino not only sees the pearl’s outward appearance, but also the possibilities that the pearl offers for the future. How do the descriptions of the pearl’s appearance and the possibilities it offers change over the course of this story? Write a response of at least a paragraph containing seven to ten sentences. Use examples from the text to support your answer.
2. Kino is, to many readers, a divisive character. There are some readers who view Kino as a victim and others who do not. In a response of at least two paragraphs, explain why some readers might view Kino as a victim while others might hold Kino responsible for his own misery and the misery of others. Use examples from the novel to support both positions.
