The Pearl
What is interesting about the way Steinback refers to the intruder? why does he do this?
Couldn't answer this one either.

Steinbeck refers to the intruder in a way in which we know that the intruder isn't a stranger. The description leaves us feeling that Kino and his family suffer something worse than intrusion.... they suffer a loss of faith in their neighbors. The intruder signifies and supports Kino's fear.... of everyone.
