why do kino throw the pearl in the end instead of selling it for his benefit

The Pearl has brought him nothing but misery and evil. Kino has lost his real "pearl" , his baby Coyotito. Kino now hates the pearl that he was once so obsessed with. Any money he might get for it would have his baby's metaphorical blood on it.
