The Pearl
Why were some of Kinos neighbors proud of him?
Chapter 4
Chapter 4
After defying the dealers and the speculators many people felt that Kino would not be able to sell his pearl at all,
"And now, said other fearful ones, now that he had defied them, those
Buyers will not want to deal with him at all. Maybe Kino has cut off
his own head and destroyed himself."
Some felt Kino was brave for not giving in to collusion with such low prices offered. They felt that Kino's courage might pay off for them in the future should they retrieve such a treasure, “And others said Kino is a brave man, and a fierce man; he is right."
From his courage we may all profit. These were proud of Kino."
