Is the partial boy a good way to show the idea of the average family having 2.5 children?

The partial boy is the .58 in the average family size of 2.58 children. This example is an excellent way to improve math skills, particularly, mean, median and mode. I personally find the depiction of a partial child confusing to the issue.
