Here and elsewhere? Wilde uses vivid imagery to portray the decadence and excess of the society in which Dorian finds himself. He becomes addicted to the opulence and corruption, he is disolute.... even dangerous. Wilde's elaborate descriptions paint a picture in which it is impossible to claim ignorance.
