What is the authors purpose for this hint?

Question

Mr. pignati twice mentions visiting and feeding Bobo. This "hint" of something dreadful that may happen in the future is called omen. (Chapter 11)

I think this foreshadows Bobo's death as well as Mr. Pignati's death.
